What the key tasks will look like
As a System Engineer, you are the backbone of IT operations. You’ll ensure seamless service delivery, provide expert support to users, and proactively maintain high system availability. Your role spans managing and optimizing infrastructure, leading technical projects, safeguarding system security, and ensuring business continuity. You’ll also oversee production releases, maintain clear documentation, and administer databases—all while being a trusted escalation point and a key player in daily operational readiness
You guarantee the availability of the systems and networks, and the continuity of the associated IT equipment so the end users can always do their work professionally. More concretely, your tasks will be the following:
Service Delivery & User Support
You are the first line of defense when network or system issues arise. Your responsibility will be to:
- Provide expert support to users, analyze their questions, and recommend effective solutions.
- Guide and inform users to ensure smooth and confident system usage.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues to maintain optimal system availability.
- Act as the escalation point for the service desk, ensuring swift and effective resolution of complex problems.
Infrastructure Management & Optimization
You will take charge of the network and system infrastructure, ensuring it runs smoothly and evolves with the organization’s needs. In this role, you will:
- Manage daily operations, maintenance, and monitoring of infrastructure.
- Evaluate, adapt, and document systems to support continuous improvement.
- Implement updates, patches, and enhancements provided by vendors.
- Analyze usage and requests to ensure the infrastructure is properly sized and scalable.
Projects, Security & Continuity
Your role will be pivotal in driving infrastructure projects and maintaining business resilience. You will:
- Collaborate on and implement new infrastructure and services.
- Lead initiatives to introduce and evaluate new systems and networks.
- Ensure robust security across systems and networks, including firewalls and OS-level protections.
- Plan and execute the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) to guarantee business continuity.
- Participate in on-call and shift rotations to ensure coverage and readiness, including daily "Start Of Day" checks.
Production, Documentation & Database Administration
You will ensure that systems are well-documented, releases are smooth, and databases are well-managed. Your responsibilities include:
- Executing production releases in strict alignment with organizational processes and approvals.
- Maintaining clear, up-to-date documentation of infrastructure configurations in collaboration with the system architect.
- Administering databases across production, testing, and development environments.
Required skills and competencies
Technical skills
- Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or equivalent by experience.
- Some years of experience as System Engineer are recommended.
- Technical knowledge:
- strong focus on MS Azure with experience of Terraform
- VMware vSpere
- Active Directory
- Windows Server from 2016 up to 2025
- Firewall (Palo Alto - Fortigate)
- Symantec Enterprise Vault and Endpoint Protection
- Windows defender
- VoIP Mitel products, softphone, xPhone Fax
- Load Balancing (F5)
- Sharepoint online
- Knowledge of Linux (Red Hat or other distribution)
- Knowledge of AS400, SQL, Dell ECS is an asset.
- Affinity with containers, Kubernetes, networking, security.
- Fluent in Dutch or French.
- Good working knowledge of English.
